Emerging from Manchester, the trio behind Manumission infused electronic music with the island's free-spirited, hippie vibe. Their events, characterized by an open and liberating ethos, captivated audiences and became synonymous with the golden age of clubbing on the island.
In 1998, seeking a space for relentless parties, Mike and Claire transformed an abandoned roadside brothel into The Motel, an unconventional venue designed for continuous celebration. Guests, including friends, DJs, and celebrities, found a place to socialize without the constraints of traditional hotel rules. However, after two tiresome summers, The Motel ceased operations.
Le Weekend Manumission: A 2026 Comeback
After an 18-year hiatus, Manumission is set to return from September 25 to 27, 2026, as “Le Weekend Manumission.” The event will unfold over three days at three venues in Sant Antoni de Portmany, including Ibiza Rocks, the famed Pikes Hotel, and the 528 Club. The centerpiece of this reunion will be a 12-hour party on September 26, a tribute to the unique essence of Ibiza's nightlife.
Mike expressed concerns over the current entertainment landscape, lamenting, “The island has lost that eccentric side – it's all about money these days.” He shared his excitement about his children experiencing the vibrancy of the '90s firsthand while highlighting the nostalgia felt by locals and visitors alike.

Manumission began its journey in 1994 when Mike and Andy traveled to Ibiza to escape Manchester's nightlife, which felt stagnant at the time. What started as a holiday blossomed into a movement that revitalized the island's party scene. Despite challenges, including a violent incident that forced the temporary closure of one event, Manumission persevered, attracting a diverse array of guests. Celebrities frequented the parties, where the atmosphere was free from the barriers of exclusivity.
