Clara Chappaz, born in Paris in 1989, serves as the French ambassador for Digital Affairs and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Until October of the previous year, she held the position of minister in the same domain. In December, President Emmanuel Macron appointed her to spearhead efforts for an international consensus aimed at regulating the protection of minors from the hazards associated with social networks.
France's New Regulations on Social Networks
Starting in September, France will implement a ban on social network access for minors under the age of 15. This initiative marks France as the first country in Europe and the second globally, following Australia, to introduce such a prohibition. Chappaz emphasizes the significance of this measure amid a challenging geopolitical landscape, stating, “If there is something that brings us together around the table, it is the protection of minors.”
The upcoming regulations reflect France's commitment to safeguarding vulnerable populations in the digital age, highlighting the need for proactive measures in national and international forms of digital governance.
