The Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo, has initiated an inquiry into the measures being taken by the Administration to mitigate the potential harmful effects of certain content curated by social media algorithms on minors. In a recent statement, Gabilondo emphasized the urgent need to understand how various governmental bodies are working to protect young individuals in the digital environment.
To this end, the Ombudsman has reached out to several key governmental departments, including the State Secretariat for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, the Mental Health Commissioner of the Ministry of Health, and the State Attorney General's Office. The goal is to gather information on existing strategies and actions aimed at safeguarding minors from potentially damaging online content.
This inquiry highlights the critical importance of monitoring social media activities and ensuring that protective measures are in place for vulnerable populations, particularly children and adolescents.
